About:  The Phlebotomy and Electrocardiogram Program

Do you enjoy a varied work environment?  If so, the combination program offering both Phlebotomy and ECG should peak your interest.  This program encompasses two full certifications and national exams.  Having both certifications will allow you to work full time as a phlebotomist and part-time as an electrocardiogram technician or vice versa.  You will never feel burned out.  The variety in two speciality careers also helps build your credentials.  Not too many people are proficient in two separate careers. Program Description:

Phlebotomy & ECG Technician Certifications: This is an online course in which students have 6 months to complete. The 6 months includes 24/7  online access to both course(s) and the national exam(s). The Phlebotomy Technician Program is 170 hours and the Electrocardiogram is a 60 hour program.  Upon completion of both programs, students will be ready to work as a Phlebotomy Technician and an Electrocardiogram Technician.

Course Descriptions:

Phlebotomy Technician

Students will learn about the principles of proper phlebotomy technique, specimen processing, point of care testing, compassionate patient care, identification and proper use of equipment for blood collection, record keeping and documentation, basic principles of anatomy and physiology, disease process, therapeutic communication, hazardous materials management, venipuncture technique, order of draw, ICU (Intensive Care Unit) blood draws, PICC (Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter) Line draws and patient assessment.

ECG Technician

Students will learn about the student is introduced to basic bedside patient care skills, HIPAA, resident rights, safety, and emergency procedures and lessons and topics that include video lecture instruction on cardiology, electrocardiography, recognition of lethal and dangerous rhythms and experiences in the interpretation of the 12 lead EKG using various multimedia. The course helps students to understand, read and interpret Electrocardiogram Lead Tracings, how to expertly perform an Electrocardiogram and perfrom necesssary patient life saving interventions if warrented.

Clinical Externships:

Phlebotomy Technicians must complete a clinical of 30 venipunctures as a part of the Phlebotomy Technician clinical core requirements to graduate our program. Each draw must be supervised and signed off on a blood draw log and externship forms that will be provided to the student.

A virtual alternative is available for Phlebotomy Technicians who are unable to find an externship in their area.

ECG Technicians must complete a clinical of 40 hours of live EKGs observation or 10 live EKGs for our EKG clinical core requirements to graduate our program. Each EKG requirement must be supervised and signed off on a clinical competency form that will be provided to the student.

Students should try to find an intership in their local area.  The best places to try first are local urgent care centers or a family physician.  Phlebotomy Career Training will help the students by providing a letter of introduction, which students may take to their local clinics, plasma centers, urgent care facilities and physician offices.

However, if the student is unale to locate an internship, Phlebotomy Career Trainings offers an amazing virtual internship option that is free to all online students.

Previous Experience Counts!

Students who have previous experience in either phlebotomy or electrocardiogram lead placement can apply their experience to waive their clinical externship requirement. Students can call before or after their purchase of the program to inquire if their prior experience is acceptable. Students can also submit a notarized resume, a letter from their previous employer or other certifications and licenses as proof of their previous experience which will be reviewed by our admissions team.

Recommended Pre-Requirements:

Students should be 18 years of age or older or at the legal age of their state or country.

No prior experience is required.

High School Diploma or GED equivalent is strongly recommended but not required.
