Overview

Are you passionate about helping others? Phlebotomy technicians collect blood samples for laboratory testing and play a vital role in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. If you are interested in getting into healthcare without spending years in school, this course may be the perfect fit for you.

The phlebotomy class consists of both in-person hands-on instruction and an online curriculum.  Curriculum includes principles of proper phlebotomy technique, specimen processing, point of care testing, compassionate patient care, maintenance and use of equipment, record keeping and documentation, basic principles of anatomy and physiology, disease process, therapeutic communication, hazardous materials management, and patient assessment.

Student Experience While Taking Our In-Person Phlebotomy Class

Phlebotomy Career Training has been training Michigan residents to become phlebotomists for over 14 years. Phlebotomy Career Training is nestled in the quaint neatly manicured suburbs of Dearborn, Michigan.Students can expect a warm friendly atmosphere and an environment that promotes learning. Prerequisites

A high school diploma or equivalent GED is recommended to enroll in the Online Phlebotomy Technician Course. No prior work experience is required. 

In-Person Phlebotomy Class Curriculum (Modules & Exams)

The Phlebotomy Technician training includes 170 hours of course and clinical content and covers 35 individual course topics including:

  • Principles of proper phlebotomy technique
  • Specimen processing
  • Point of care testing
  • Compassionate patient care
  • Maintenance and use of equipment
  • Record keeping and documentation
  • Basic principles of anatomy and physiology
  • Disease process
  • Therapeutic communication
  • Hazardous materials management
  • Patient assessment.

Students will need to pass a Phlebotomy Technician Final Exam after completing the course in addition to their 15 to 30 supervised blood draws to receive their certification. 

Phlebotomy Internship Requirements

Students are required to complete an in-person internship that allows them to do up to 30 blood draws with a minimum of 15 to complete the program’s clinical core requirements.

All in-person students will have access to Phlebotomy Career Training’s Job Board which has job postings from local hospitals and other medical facilities. Students can take advantage of videos on how to interview for healthcare positions, free resume templates made by our instructors, and numerous job openings throughout the state of Michigan.

FAQs About Our In-Person Phlebotomy Class


Do the In-Person courses require an in-person test?

All in-person students must complete a clinical check-off examination in-class with their instructor. Phlebotomy students will be able to do all their academic homework online. Quizzes can be taken as many times as the student likes. We allow this so that students will understand the materials thoroughly. The final exam can be taken up to two times. We offer one complimentary attempt at the NAPTP National Phlebotomy Technician Certification Exam, which is online. Students can choose to take other national exams from the AMT, NHA, AMCA, NCCT, and the ASCP but the student will be responsible for the cost. These organizations may require that you take their exam in person.

How does the internship/externship work?

As part of the Phlebotomy Technician Certification Program, students can take advantage of internships throughout the state of Michigan. While internships are not required for graduation, students may still complete one if they feel it would help them. The process of internships requires that the students come to the school for an exit interview to determine their ability to perform an internship. There are also several forms and documents that must be turned in to the school prior to entering into their internship. Students can choose from Beaumont, St. Johns, and many more hospitals throughout the state of Michigan.

How do the credit hours work?

Students that complete the NAPTP exam successfully will receive a unique number and national recognition.

Is Phlebotomy Career Training accredited?

Phlebotomy Career Training is a licensed proprietary school in the state of Michigan and our National Testing Partners which have approved our programs are accredited. This means that the student who graduates and takes their national exam will have accreditation through the National Testing Organization and is eligible to work anywhere in the United States. These organizations include:

Phlebotomy Career Training does not offer Credit hours and therefore does not accept financial aid. We are a private for-profit post-secondary school, licensed by the state of Michigan. Phlebotomy Career Training offers clock hours. These clock hours can transfer to some colleges and universities for credit hours.

Phlebotomy is a great way to get into healthcare without any prior experience in the field. And there are many advancement opportunities for phlebotomy technicians once they get their foot in the door. Yes, the Phlebotomy Technician Certification from PCT is valid in the United States and Canada.

Students should always check with their state department for their licensing or certification requirements. Some states may require additional training or examination before becoming qualified to work in that state.
