Medical Assistant Tier 4 Internship Requirements
Medical Assistants must complete a clinical of 204 hours of observation and training for their Medical Assistant clinical core requirements to graduate from our program. Each Medical Assistant skill requirement must be supervised and signed off on a clinical competency form that will be provided to the student.
Phlebotomy Technicians must complete a clinical of 50 live venipunctures as a part of the Phlebotomy Technician clinical core requirements to graduate from our program. Each draw must be supervised and signed off on a blood draw log and externship forms that will be provided to the student.
Phlebotomy Career Training does not place students in internships/externships. Students are required to locate an available facility or organization where they may complete their live venipunctures. Urgent care centers, doctor’s offices, hospitals, and other clinics are popular internship locations. It is recommended that students call around to their local facilities to find availability. If an affiliation agreement is required, students will be instructed to send an email to administration to begin the process.
A submission of 30 technique videos prior to the start of a live venipuncture internship is required. A VSK (Virtual Simulation Kit) is provided to students so that they may send in 30 videos that will be viewed and assessed for competency by PCT instructors. This cannot take the place of live draws which are required for graduation.
Students are required to send in video submissions of themselves practicing venipuncture techniques using the practice kit. Our instructors will provide the student with feedback and indicate any corrections that need to be made. The student will continue this process until they have completed all 30 simulated blood draws.
30 video submissions are required prior to the start of a live venipuncture internship to assess for competency. Students may not begin their internship until they have proven competency via video submissions.
ECG Technicians must complete a clinical of 40 hours of live EKGs observation or 10 live EKGs for our EKG clinical core requirements to graduate from our program. Each EKG requirement must be supervised and signed off on a clinical competency form that will be provided to the student.
A virtual alternative is available for ECG Technicians who are unable to find an internship in their area.
IV Technicians in the Medical Assistant Tier 4 program are required to submit a virtual internship video for the venipuncture requirement under the IV Technician section. Venipuncture technique is practiced in both phlebotomy and IV insertion.
Telemetry Technicians in the Medical Assistant Tier 4 program are not required to complete a clinical externship. Students can focus on studying and completing their course online.

Urgent care centers, doctor’s offices, hospitals, and other clinics are popular internship locations. We recommend students to begin their internship by the end of their second module for each course.
Students can submit a letter from their employer on company letterhead or a notarized resume as proof of experience in the last 16 months to waive their clinical requirement.
