Online Dialysis Technician Course & Certification Overview

There are many reasons to take a class to become a Dialysis Technician. Dialysis Technicians work together with a doctor or nurse to provide patient care to people with permanent kidney failure. Dialysis is the process of removing metabolic waste from the blood by filtering the blood for the kidneys. Dialysis Technicians are in growing demand and this certification is sure to keep you employed.

The 100% online course curriculum includes understanding the characteristics and symptoms of all clients with renal failure, the process and treatment of kidney dialysis and acute renal failure, cardiac and renal pharmacology, end-stage renal failure, and renal anatomy.

Upon course completion, students will need to pass the online certification exam to receive their Dialysis Technician Certification.

Student Experience

The online Dialysis Technician training is designed to work with your schedule. Courses are self-paced and accessible 24/7. The modules are also mobile-friendly. The curriculum can be completed in as little as 4 weeks, but you will have as long as 6 months to complete the course from the time of enrollment. 

Students will be assigned an instructor who will send them a welcome email that includes information about the student account as well as the registered program. Students can expect to receive correspondence Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 am to 5 pm EST. Your assigned instructor can help you with any questions you may have while taking the course.

Online Dialysis Technician Class Prerequisites

A high school diploma or equivalent GED is recommended to enroll in the Online Dialysis Technician Course.

Prior patient care experience is required. Experience in patient care includes previous work experience and/or licensure as a CNA, Home Health Aide, Direct Care Worker, or other medical professionals. Students must submit a letter from their employer on company letterhead or a notarized resume as proof of experience.

Curriculum (Modules & Exams)

The Dialysis Technician training includes 200 hours of course content and covers over 15 individual course topics including:

  • Personal patient care
  • Dialysis training
  • How to care for the patient on dialysis
  • Fluid and Electrolytes
  • Patient assessment
  • Dialysis nutrition goals for the renal patient
  • Taking vital signs
  • Infection control
  • HIPAA regulation
  • Mental health
  • Disease processes

Students will need to pass a Dialysis Technician Certification Exam after completing the course to receive their certification.  

Students should always check with their state department for their licensing or certification requirements. Some states may require additional training or examination before becoming qualified to work in that state.

Dialysis Technician Internship Requirements

Phlebotomy Career Training does not offer Credit hours and therefore does not accept financial aid. We are a private for-profit post-secondary school, licensed by the state of Michigan. Phlebotomy Career Training offers clock hours. These clock hours can transfer to some colleges and universities for credit hours.
