Online CCMA Medical Assistant Course 

Overview

Medical assistants play a vital role in patient care and diagnosis. Their specialized skill set is in high demand in doctor’s offices, hospitals, outpatient centers, and many other medical facilities. If you are interested in getting into healthcare without spending years in school, the medical assistant course may be the perfect fit for you.  Obtaining your CCMA (Certified Clinical Medical Assistant) will open many doors in the health care field.

During the 100% online course curriculum students will learn many important skills necessary to work as medical assistants, such as taking vital signs, assisting with minor surgeries, and performing injections and electrocardiograms. They will also become knowledgeable about inpatient management, administrative tasks, and HIPPA and OSHA regulations, as well as effective bedside manner and professional conduct.

Upon course completion, students will need to pass the certification exam to receive their Medical Assistant Certification. Our online classes offer national accrediting exams which allow students to work anywhere in the U.S. and Canada.

Student Experience

The online Medical Assistant Course is designed to work with your schedule. Courses are self-paced and accessible 24/7. The modules are also mobile-friendly. The curriculum can be completed in as little as 6 weeks, but you will have as long as 6 months to complete the course from the time of enrollment.

Upon registration, students will be given the option to create an account with their own password. This will allow the students immediate access to their program.  Students who do not choose this option will have their accounts created for them. Students may contact the school’s front office should they need access immediately. Staff is available Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm EST.

Students will be assigned an instructor who will send them a welcome email that includes information about the student account as well as the registered program. Your assigned instructor can help you with any questions you may have while taking the course.

Prerequisites

Students must be at least 18 years old or older to enroll in the course. A high school diploma or equivalent GED is not required but strongly encouraged. No prior work experience is required.

Curriculum (Modules & Exams)

The Medical Assistant Course includes 996 hours of course instruction and the required 204 hours of clinical internship experience with course topics including:

  • Taking vital signs
  • SOAP Note charting
  • Infection control
  • HIPPA and OSHA regulations
  • Assisting with minor surgical procedures
  • Performing injections such as intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous
  • Performing electrocardiograms
  • Performing phlebotomy
  • Drug and pregnancy testing
  • Medical supply management
  • Verbal therapeutic communication
  • Creating a safe effective environment
  • Administrative tasks including organization, scheduling

Students will need to pass a Medical Assistant Certification Exam after completing the course in order to receive their certification. Phlebotomy Career Training offers one complimentary voucher to any of the certification exams offered through AMCA, NCCT, and NHA. To be able to use the voucher, students must schedule their exam at least 6 weeks prior to the expiration of their course.

Internship Requirements

Students must complete an internship that includes 204 clinical hours of observation and training for their Medical Assistant clinical core requirements to graduate from our program. Each Medical Assistant skill requirement must be supervised and signed off on a clinical competency form that will be provided to the student. Students are responsible for finding internships at their location. Urgent care centers, doctor’s offices, hospitals, and other clinics are popular internship locations. We recommend students begin their internship by the end of their second module.

Students who have prior experience may be able to waive the internship requirement.

You can submit proof of your experience to waive your externship requirements. Submitting a detailed letter from your previous or current employer and/or a detailed notarized resume will help waive the clinical requirements of the program.

We Pay For Your National Accredited Exam

We will pay for the costs of your national accredited exam for all students who complete our program within a six-month timeframe. Taking the national exam ensures that students will have the highest level of certification and that their certification will be accepted wherever they go, whether in their state or another state. We have partnered with some of the best and most recognized nationally accredited organizations known for their national exam recognition throughout the United States. This is only valid during the first 6 months of a student’s program.

Once the students have passed their final and completed their internship, Phlebotomy Career Training will require students to inquire as to which national exam they would like to take.

This course is accredited by the AMCA, NCCT, and NHA and the student can choose which of the 3 national exams they wish to take. The national exam for Medical Assistant Certification is included in the course tuition.

Do the online courses require an in-person test?

There are multiple national certification exams that PCT graduates may take; some online and others are in-person depending on your location.

How does the internship/externship work?

As part of the Medical Assistant Certification Program, students are required to complete an internship that will allow them to practice the skills that they learn in their courses. You may see this internship referred to as an externship or clinical in various materials; these all refer to the same requirement. Students are responsible for securing an internship. Your instructor can provide you with a letter to help you secure an internship.

Is Phlebotomy Career Training accredited?

Phlebotomy Career Training is a licensed proprietary school in the state of Michigan and our National Testing Partners which have approved our programs are accredited. This means that the student who graduates and takes their national exam will have accreditation through the National Testing Organization and is eligible to work anywhere in the United States. These organizations include:

Phlebotomy Career Training does not offer Credit hours and therefore does not accept financial aid. We are a private for-profit post-secondary school, licensed by the state of Michigan. Phlebotomy Career Training offers clock hours. These clock hours can transfer to some colleges and universities for credit hours.
