Online EKG Technician

How many of us have had an EKG? If you said yes, then you know that it can be embarrassing and a little unnerving. However, knowing what to expect makes you a better health care provider because you know what could be done to make the procedure a little less embarrassing and awkward particularly if it is someone of the opposite sex performing the EKG. At Phlebotomy Career Training we are specialists in the field of cardiology training for the health care technician. For over 11 years, we have been at training Americans in how to read and interpret as well as perform EKGs. Some student’s wonder what the difference is between the letters EKG and ECG. It is relatively straightforward. The term EKG is old German and stands for electrocardiogram, while the letters ECG also stand for electrocardiogram but are used more due to the fact that it represents the English version, ie. “Cardio”.
Our teachers are renowned educators in the field of electrocardiogram technician instruction and telemetry interpretation. As a matter of fact we wrote the book.
So how can someone learn to preform EKG’s in an online class you may ask? The answer is simple. The online class provides the students the classroom experience along with books and calipers to measure the rhythms strips which come out from the machine. But also, the student needs to complete 10 EKGs as well as 40 hours of internship at a cardiologists office or urgent care. While no prior health care experience is needed, there is a lot of information which the student must grasp during the course. For instance, the student must first learn about patient privacy laws also known as the HIPAA law, infection control, anatomy, physiology, cardiovascular anatomy and the pathosphysiology of the cardiovascular system. If you are interested in the heart and how it works then this class is for you. While the student is responsible for setting up their EKG rotations, our school helps the student with an introduction letter and will also reach out to the students desired rotation site on their behalf. Students are provided with an externship EKG rotation form in which their activity and the procedure that they perform are documented by their preceptor such as the medical assistant, nurse practitioner or physician. The student must learn therapeutic communication skills and know how to properly greet the patient and identify the patient. For most of us in the medical field these task may be second nature, but not so for the novice. This course teaches the students about how to approach the patient, explain the procedure and help calm their nerves. If we refer to the opening paragraph regarding the nature of performing and EKG the student will quickly see how a kind, calm and gentle bedside manner can go a long way at making the procedure of having a EKG a little less embarrassing.
Teaching student online EKG technician training is actually quite fun. Students will have the sense of classroom immersion with the HD professionally tapped videos. Their instructor is a close as a phone call or text. Instructors will also video chat with students per their request. Stepping out into the field and actually performing and EKG on a real patient can be very daunting and scary for those doing this for the first time. Which is why our teachers are there for the student. Students are encouraged to reach out to their teachers and talk about their expectations, fears and questions if any regarding the course. The student’s instructor reaches out to the student every few weeks to check on[arve url=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/5JJmb9JxwGU” title=”Online EKG Class” description=”Online EKG Class” /] their progress. Once the student has completed their course and rotation they are ready to graduate and go to take the national certifying exam, which is accepted all over the U.S. and is offered through the National Telemetry Association. This course along with all study materials, book, calipers, national exam and personal instruction is now being offered for $500.
