Phlebotomy Career Training announces its first comprehensive online IV certification. Students will learn to insert, remove and troubleshoot intravenous lines. This is a field that once was only designated to Registered Nurses. For the most part it still is, however with the advent of new technology and the high demand for previously in hospital procedures now moving to the physicians office, the IV trained medical assistant or health care professional is currently in high demand. While this class does not provide a license, it does provide the most up to date comprehensive training that rivals university nursing or medical school programs. It is highly suggested that all physicians and nurses take this course. Students will become familiar with the laws guiding the insertion of IV’s as well as the fluids that are ordered by physicians needed to infuse. This course comes with a life like training arm and IV equipment for the student to be able to practice. Students can practice on the arm and follow along with the classroom video instruction. The national IV exam is also included in the course. Student’s who may take this course include, medical assistants, nurses (RN’s or LPN’s), physicians, medical students, nursing students, dental hygienists, dentists, patient care technicians and phlebotomy technicians. Having an IV certification will let employers know that the students skills extended far beyond that which is merely required for their position. Phlebotomy technicians already have a thorough understanding of how to find veins, which makes them even more marketable when they are able to present to their employer their IV technician certification. There are no clinicals required for this course. Rightly so, seeing that there is always a chance of complications when starting an IV and also only a physician can order an IV. Students will learn about patient’s rights, safety, proper sharps disposal, drip rate calculations include fluids and electrolytes.
The course if filled with demonstration videos of our instructors using the anatomical arms with fake blood. Students taking this class online enjoy watching the classroom videos since it is almost like being there. The online instructors are always available for students to reach out to in case they need clarification or just to talk about their progress. Students can expect biweekly follow ups fr om their instructors. A video conferencing session is part of the course graduation requirement and can be scheduled at a convenient time between the student and instructor. The purpose of the video conferencing is so that the student can demonstrate their ability to start and remove an IV using the anatomical arm provided in the course.
Nancy L. Kimmel obtained her PhD in Environmental Engineering in 2002, then went on to teach Physics and Mechanical Engineering at Lawrence Technological University, Henry Ford College and Oakland University. She obtained her Associate in Nursing from Henry Ford College and then went on to earn her Master Degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner and became Board Certified working as a licensed FNP in the State of Michigan. She then went on to Medical School where she is now in her 3rd year, and is also in the process of obtaining her Doctorate in Nursing Practice through Chamberlin University. She has authored the NET Study Guide, as well a several books on subjects of Math, ECG/EKG and Phlebotomy. She holds a patent on an Air Filter through the U.S. Patent Office.
