Welcome students to our current Summer Sale.
This is a 40 hour course open to students currently enrolled at Phlebotomy Career Training School in either the phlebotomy or cardio-phlebotomy. Medical professionals such as RN’s, LPN’s, MD’s, Medical Assistants, Pharmacists and Dentists are welcome to take the I.V.Course. All students will receive an approved Michigan certificate as a I.V. Technician. Previous medical background is required. Current students are allowed to enroll. We can take up to 12 students per class. call 734-762-3220 for enrollment and dates of upcoming classes.  The online option is also available to medical professionals.  The National IV exam is included in the course cost.  Students will learn about the scope of practice of IV insertion, hypotonic, hypertonic and isotonic solutions, angiocath gauges, complications and mathematical drip rate calculations.  Online students can add a life like training practice arm for an additional fee. Students taking this class online locally, may come to our 1 day inservice for hands on practice.  Our students in different states may attend the class as well on Skype.  Dates of inservice will be posted on the website.

This is a 40 hour course 6 hours in class and 34 hours online designed to help the medical healthcare provider/student refresh their knowledge of IV insertion and help strengthen their techniques of intravenous insertion. Prior medical experience needed. Those who qualify to take this course are as follows: Medical Assistants, Physicians, Nurses, Phlebotomist, Dental Assistants, Surgical technologists, and anyone who has had experience with needles/syringes or other injection/invasive techniques.

Prerequisites for this course are as follows: Students should be currently enrolled in the phlebotomy class or cardio phlebotomy class at Phlebotomy Career Training or if attending from outside of the school, students should be in the medical field with prior IV insertion knowledge, such as but not limited to the following professions; EMT, Para medic, RN, MD, Intern, Medical Assistant, Dentist or Pharmacist.
Supplies: all supplies are included in this course. The student is only required to bring a notebook and pen or pencil for notes.
Course Goals
At the completion of this course the student will be able to describe and discuss:
1. Legal aspects of intravenous insertion and flushing
Basic fluid and electrolyte balance and therapy including types of intravenous fluids
Indications (reasons) for intravenous fluids
Basic indications and methods of infusion of blood and blood products
Anatomy and physiology related to venipuncture sites
Patient care (including psychological preparation) before, during, and after venous therapy
2. At the completion of the course the student will be able to identify:
Procedure for administration of correct intravenous therapy according to the “Five Rights”
Equipment for initiation and maintenance of peripheral intravenous fluid therapy
Equipment for adding intravenous fluids to an existing intravenous access devices
Equipment for regulating the flow of intravenous fluids
3. At the completion of the course the student will be able to demonstrate competency in:
Preparing and giving intravenous fluids according to the “Five Rights”
Inserting a peripheral venous access device
Adding intravenous fluids to an existing saline-lock venous access
Regulating the flow of intravenous fluids

Students will have access to new state of the art videos recorded directly from the classroom as well as easy access to their instructor.
This is a wonderful class for current nurses, physicians and anyone currently in the medical field who performs IV or venipuncture to enhance their skill level with attention to patient safety.

Previous medical background is required.
